Steve Angello SIZE MATTERS @ Congress Theater 11/26/11

My next backlogged collection is from Steve Angello’s 2011 live show at Congress Theater in Chicago during his SIZE MATTERS tour with Max Vangeli & Angello’s younger brother, AN21.  The show was one of the best I went to this year and among my top 3 all time.  I’m typically partial to heavy electro and hard house for personal listening, but this concert gave me an intense appreciation for a lighter house style; the clubby progressive house styles Angello and Swedish House Mafia are known for.  Within a week following the Thanksgiving break show, I had added 2 gigs of music to my collection including a majority from the show’s setlist and pieces from artists like Axwell, Alesso, Hardwell, Dirty South, Tommy Trash, and Thomas Gold who I had seen for the first time earlier that break.  This collection is a must have in your collection and much more than a live setlist.  And remember EDM fans, MyShuffle is greater than yours…

Carl Cox @ NCMF 9/3/11

This is the first of a few belated posts I’ve decided to add to this blog.  MyShuffle has long been a mental work-in-progress and the culmination of a number of friends who have asked me for music.  One of the collections I threw together was from Carl Cox’s North Coast Music Festival set at Union Park in Chicago.  The set was about an hour long and the absolute highlight of our day among other greats such as Major Lazer, Zed’s Dead, Fatboy Slim, and an excellent live electro performance by Felix Cartel.  NCMF was the first time I’ve seen Cox live and heard his unique British house style.  There is something about the way the jolly giant bounces with his upbeat set.  He’s been one of the longest in the game and his experience shows.  His selection was all uniquely Cox including classics like “Percolator” and “Let Me See You Work”.  I tracked down some of the other hits from his setlist for you to enjoy here:

First thing’s first.

Hi, I’m Brooks Golden.  I love electronic music and MyShuffle is my music blog.

As an avid fan of EDM (i.e., Electronic Dance Music which encompasses House and it’s variations such as Electro House, Club House, Disco House, etc.; Techno; Trance; Synthpop; and newcomers Dubstep and Moombahton), I’ve watch its growth since I was young.  I remember loving Daft Punk’s single “Around The World” when it was on Chicago’s B96 radio station after it came out in 1997, and even 80’s attempts at electronic music like the synthpop group Yazoo, who’s greatest hits cassette my parents bought for me when I fell for their 1982 single “Situation”.  I frequently listened to eurodance albums like “Europop” by Eiffel 65 and “The Party Album” by the Vengaboys, and in highschool I even tracked down the student who submitted the trance house collection they occasionally played between passing periods for a copy.  Now, having amassed an extensive electronic music collection of my own from the past two decades, I have decided to share my hand-picked songs with the world wide web.

If you are just getting into the recent EDM fad, the plethora of online music apps and file hosting sites that let you download any song for free has made the discovery of new electronic music easier than ever.  I recommend Hype Machine and Spotify for those just trying to get into the genre or music in general… and MyShuffle, of course.

This first collection is a starter pack, a taste test of EDM, and more than enough to get your own collection started.  I originally compiled this selection to fit on a CD data disc (700 MB) for some friends visting from Australia as they toured the States.  I received a great review from them and have given the collection to a number of others who know I listen to a lot of electronic music.  This collection was made May 25, 2011 and features the best of my stuff for those just getting into the PEW PEW PEW, BUUUUM BEWWOWWMP & DA NA NA NA NA NA!!
